The Soloist

While reading The Soloist, I have been trying to figure out Steve Lopez's purpose for writing the novel and the goals he wished to have achieved by writing it. One of the most obvious reasons why he might have written The Soloist was to spread awareness about schizophrenia and how it can affect one's future. I also think he wrote it to demonstrate a fact of life. In life, nothing is fair. One can have the best luck in the world for the longest time but could one day find himself or herself faced with unbearable misery. All that is good in one's life can be taken away in an instant, as was the case with Nathaniel Ayers, whose bright career in music was blocked by the obstacle of schizophrenia. I think Steve Lopez is trying to tell the world through his novel to take nothing for granted, that everything is not a right but a gift which must be cherished and never forgotten.

*Please tell me if anything I have said is off topic. Thanks.*

  2. Your ideas were concise and to the point. I like the topic of discussing why Lopez wrote the book, not many posts address that.

    Suggestion:
It seemed to me like the grammar was fine, the only thing I can suggest is trying make your writing flow a little smoother. Try different styles and see which one is more comfortable with you

    Excellent work :)

  4. I agree with all of what your saying. But another possibility is that he wants to generate some amount of money for Nathaniel. You're points are all short and to the point and I don't think that anything was off topic. However, I think that you should have written more on you thoughts about the chapters. I curious as to what you thought about them or what things you noticed.

  5. Coll, my best friend! Anyways, your post seemed really short and it was really straight to the point. I think you should have pointed out about what specific parts of the novel were directly related to what major points that you were trying to say. All of your points were really concise and straightforward, and rather easy to understand well. As for your question to look at, you have nothing really off topic in here as far as I can see. Great Job girl! :)
